Professor Monica B. Chibita

Journalism, Mass Media & Communication – Over 17 Years Experience

Biography

Monica B. Chibita is Professor and Dean, Faculty of Journalism, Media and Communication and has been the coordinator of the NORHED capacity building project at Uganda Christian University (UCU) since 2013.

She holds a Doctor of Literature and Philosophy in Communication (University of South Africa), an M.A. in Journalism (University of Iowa), and B.A/Education (Makerere University).

She   served at Makerere University for 17 years between 1994 and 2011, leaving as Associate Professor and Head of Department, Mass Communication.

She has served on several Boards (including as Board Chair). These include Uganda’s Broadcasting Council, the New Vision Printing and Publishing Corporation (Chair-2 years), the African Centre for Media Excellence, the East Africa Communication Association (President-four years), AMREF Health Africa (Uganda), World Vision Uganda (Chair-three years) and World Vision International (Vice-Chair-two years).

Her research interests are in the broad area of media and democracy with specific interest in media regulation, diversity and participation.

She has published on the subjects of indigenous language media, media history, media regulation, media and migration, media education and new media and participation. She is Associate Editor of the Journal of African Media Studies (JAMS) and serves on the editorial boards of several other journals in the field including NORDICOM Review, Communication, African Journalism Studies and Journalism Studies and Journalism Studies.

Dr. Fred Muhumuza

Development Policy Research, Analysis, Formulation & Review – Over 20 Years Experience

Biography

Dr. Muhumuza is a Ugandan national with a PhD from the University of Manchester.

He has been involved in development policy research, analysis, formulation and review for over twenty years, with a parallel teaching career at Makerere University, Nkumba University, and African Bible University.

He has undertaken assignments in public policy as a researcher and practitioner, as well as capacity building for Parliament, Civil Society and Private Sector. From 2006 to 2014, he worked as Economic Advisor to the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development in Uganda. Prior to that, Muhumuza worked as a Research Fellow at the Economic Policy Research Centre.

He has also worked as Senior Manager at KPMG Uganda and with the Financial Sector Deepening Uganda. Muhumuza has served as a Board Member for World Vision Uganda; Vision Fund, Bank of India Uganda, Member of Council at Uganda Christian University, and Member of Council for Scripture Union Uganda.

Dorothy Nseka Kiyaga

Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) & a Chartered Internal Auditor (CIA) – Over 20 Years Experience

Biography

Dorothy is a chartered public accountant(CPA) and a chartered internal auditor(CIA).

She is a career banker and has worked for Housing Finance Bank Limited for over 20years.

She is the Chief Internal Auditor at the Bank.

She has vast experience in governance and strategic audit, assurance and risk management.

She is a council member of the Institute of Corporate Governance, served as a Treasurer and freelance trainer for the Institute of Internal Auditors where she is also a member.

She is a re-known speaker and has had several speaking engagements on matters of internal audit with the most recent one being during the International Internal Audit Awareness Month 2020 where she presented a paper on “The limitations of the Covid-19 Pandemic 9 lockdown not withstanding; under my leadership, HFB organized the first Webinar to drive awareness about internal Audit on 21st May 2020. Altogether through the social media we mobilized viewership of over 1000 participants.”

Lynda Biribonwa

Environmental Management Consultant – Over 21 Years Experience

Biography

A consulting Environmental Manager with over 21 years’ experience in the environmental management arena at strategic, policy, compliance and practitioner levels, horned both in academia and professional practice in busy, complex environments. Practiced both within Uganda in the government (regulatory) and private sectors; and, internationally (UK, Ghana and Bangladesh), on varied assignments.

Specific areas of practice include: Environment & Social Impact Assessment (ESIAs), Environmental Auditing, Environmental Monitoring & Compliance, Waste Management, Sustainable Development, Business Compliance, EMS (ISO14001) development & implementation; and, Developing Environmental Risk Controls (e.g. National audit guidelines for key industry sectors including fisheries, beverages, energy, among others).
